New Episode Up, and Best of '07 Tomorrow

Unfortunetly we haven't haven't been able to maintain consistency with posting the episodes, but quell your worries, The Carl Winslow Show is still on the air. We'll make it our New Year's resolution to archive the missing shows, and get new ones up in a timely manner. I've provided a link to #39, which wasn't here for a while.

I would also like to inform everybody that tomorrow, the 20th, will be the last Carl Winslow Show of 2007. To celebrate this we will be revealing our top records of the year, providing a track from each during an extended morning & B lunch combo. We've done this in the past, though I feel it will be a tad more structured, and we will actually discuss the music we're playing (similar to our KCOU broadcast, which still hasnt turned up). Speaking of, KCOU has opened another date for a Hickman Academy of Rock takeover. We will have more on that in the future.

In celebration of the Carl Winslow Show's 35th anniversary episode and the release of Radiohead's In Rainbows, we did a Radiohead themed show/listening party last Thursday. Sorry about the delay on getting it out, but we felt it was essential to put this one up, as we were quite impressed with it. Note: the In Rainbows part of the show is not present, as it was not recorded, and took place at a later time in the day...we just played the record, download it for free at www.radiohead.com if you want to hear it.

In Rainbows In 10 Days

What an incredible move by the biggest band in the world. With a "Fuck You" to the music industry, Jonny Greenwood posted on the Dead Air Space blog that the new album In Rainbows, codenamed lP7 for the last 3 years by fanboys/girls, will be released as a download on their site in a mere 10 days! The catch: you can pay whatever you want for it, $0 to $99.

I've followed the progress of these songs since their concert premiere's in 2003-2006, and this is just incredible, as the unsigned band decided to cut out the middle man and put it out themselves. Dedicated fans can also pay $80 the "Discbox" set the band have compiled, which includes the CDs, vinyls, lyrics sheets, books, and various art. I'm considering going for it. Also, along with the actual album, the Discbox includes another CD of extra songs, which were staples during the last tour (and some of my favorites from the new stuff).

Also, expect the Carl Winslow Show to do something with this incredible occasion. Possibly a listening party in which we call up the whole gang for a reunion in the studio. I will consult with Beartrap over this...it's easily the biggest release of 2007 after all.

Recorded earlier this morning, this episode features everything from the announcement of the new NBC sitcom "Wolf," staring Wolf Blitzer of CNN fame, and the Finland band The Cliches. Great music from the indie world as usual. Warning, this episode contains dry humor. Very, very dry humor. Enjoy.

Recording Issues

Recording issues have seen that the last two episodes of the Carl Winslow Show will not be available online. But never fear, we have brought back episode #29 of last season, and it will be posted either later tonight or tomorrow. Though I haven't listened to the show in a long time and don't remember exactly what happened during it, I remember it being one of our funnier efforts. I'll make a post specifically for it later.

Live, at 6:50 AM!!! Don't worry if you don't catch it all, we are going to have the show posted here, on this blog, later in the day. I will also have a playlist posted. We're going more modern this year with the music, like a real radio show, playing songs from this year (but there will still be classics sprinkled in).

Thursday Mornings!

Looks like CWS will be a Thursday morning affair at least for a while. We both prefer the afternoon time slot, but extracurricular events have made that impossible, for now.

There is a good chance we will change to a 2:45 time in October or so, but we'll stick with the morning program at the moment.

So tune in on September 6th (next Thursday), for the season premiere of the Carl Winslow Show. Hopefully we can work out a way to post actual broadcasts on here.

First Post & Animal Collective

Well I guess this is officially the first post on the Carl Winslow Blog. I can assure you that this blog will be alive as long as the show is on the air. This is the place where you will be able to find not only links to the Carl Winslow Show broadcasts (hopefully), but also a place for me, Grizzly, to post links and personal reviews of songs and albums. Beartrap is liable to drop by some time, so stay updated for a post by him.

And now for the productive part of this post. I am sure everyone is familiar with the likes of Animal Collective. If you unfortunately aren't, Animal Collective is a group of musicians who bring to the table a style that cannot be played by anybody else, without sounding like complete crap. It's difficult to explain, because even the best cover to "Grass" would be horrible, it's just the fact that AC is playing it which makes is so amazing. Their latest LP, Strawberry Jam, due in September, holds no preservatives despite it's title. The songs on here just simply reach out and grab with an accessibility that hasn't been present on past releases (but they are still great of course). Below is a link to "For Reverend Green," which is currently my song of the year.
